Techniques
I have used many mediums over the years including: Oil paint, acrylics, watercolor, pastel, graphite, charcoal, collage, inks, and bees' wax (encaustic). I work quickly initially and slow down as the painting reaches completion. I will have specialty exhibits on there website periodically where I will explain the technique involved in creating the works.
Thomas Rosenbaum
Thomas Rosenbaum is an Ann Arbor artist who has explored various mediums and styles. He has taken numerous workshops and classes in pursuit his authentic art finding different ways to express art with oil paint, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, encaustic (bees’ wax and resin), watercolor, pastel, and collage.
Thomas is a member of the Scarab Club, Ann Arbor Art Center, Creative Washtenaw, The Huron River Art Collective, Ypsilanti Fine arts Club, and Urban Sketchers of Ann Arbor.
Recent interests have taken him into the exploration of ways to represent the human figure in collage works in charcoal, pastel, acrylic and magazine tear outs.
Thomas is influenced by the pastels of Degas, the oils of Renoir, abstract expressions of Willem DeKooning, drawings of Egon Schiele, as well as the evolution of Picasso’s works. He is influenced by the post impressionists, fauvists, abstract expressionists, and mid-century modern painters, as well as contemporary artists such as Peter Doig, Harry Ally, Dan McCaw, and Malcolm Liepke.
Thomas has participated annually in the Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, an event that he founded as a member of this community arts and culture group. He also exhibits twice a year at the Westside Art Hop. He has juried into Gutman Gallery exhibits three times this past season. He has occasional exhibits out of his studio which includes his gallery space.
As a clinical psychologist, he has a special interest in capturing the human psyche in his work. He has made a study of the history of art and the life of famous artists which has influenced his post-impressionism style in this “mid-century modern” exhibit.
His works employ color, line, value, and composition to present a harmonious narrative for the viewer to access his/her/their feelings and freely interpret the story. There is an emphasis on clean edges and continuous lines to lead the viewer into the stories the paintings tell.
Thomas’ recent works include multi-media large portrait collages and exploration into tonalism and abstracting the landscape.

Inspiration
I am inspired by the act of creating a painting from the void. I love painting people, nature and the abstract non-representational. I explore various mediums and the combinations when mixing them. Art is my love, passion, and inspiration.
